Andrea presents the Professional Ethics unit in the Planning Practice Course.
Andrea is a strategic urban/community planner with 15 years experience in the public, private and tertiary sectors in Australia and on overseas development projects. Since 2004, Andrea has run her own small consultancy, Red Road Consulting, which specialises in planning ethics, community-based strategic planning, participatory planning, creative consultation practice, capacity building, social research and policy development. Andrea's work has received 17 awards for excellence in planning and she writes and speaks about planning ethics, theory and practice regularly, here and overseas. Andrea has done applied ethics doctoral research in 'Planning Ethics in Practice' in Australia and is the co-author (with Dr Wendy Sarkissian) of "Who Cares? Australian Planners and Ethics" published in 2000 in Local Government, Public Enterprise and Ethics by Federation Press.
Brian presents the Economics of Development unit in the Planning Practice Course.
Brian Roberts recently retired as Director for the Centre for Developing Cities at the University of Canberra where he is an emeritus professor. He is a Fellow of the Planning Institute of Australia and a Certified Practising Planner (CPP). He holds a PhD in urban and regional economic development and other qualifications in urban design, planning, surveying and business management. He is an Honorary Ambassador for the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) and Chair of the ACT’s Sustainability Expert Reference Group.
Brian has held senior positions with the United Nations, Queensland State government, QUT and Canberra University and consulting mainly in Queensland, NSW and London. He has worked as a professional planner, project manager and technical adviser on a wide range of projects in more than 20 countries. He is an Advisor to AusAID, the Asian Development and World Banks and undertakes regular assignments for these organisations.
In the area of regional planning and economic development, Brian has been involved in various capacities on projects involving the preparation of economic development strategies for five national capital cities (Beijing, Jakarta, Hanoi, Canberra and Accra) as well as several other large cities.
Graeme presents the Legislation & Governance unit in the Planning Practice Course.
Graeme Ballard is a self-employed consultant with specialised skills, experience and knowledge of planning, and planning and development assessment systems based on almost 30 years professional experience. He has held senior management positions in both state and local government and has extensive experience in both local and state governments as well as in the private sector.
Graeme's state government experience has included positions in both Queensland and Western Australia. Graeme's local government experience has included employment with the Brisbane City Council and the Launceston City Council in Tasmania. He also was involved in providing consultancy services to a range of private clients with interests in residential, commercial and tourism development.
Graeme re-entered the private sector in March 2006 when he established his own planning consultancy business.
Ken presents the Effective Communication, Negotiation and Mediation unit in the Planning Practice Course.
Ken has a wealth of consulting experience with organisations both at home and abroad which has made him one of the most engaging and compelling facilitators in the business. He has assisted many companies to focus on their business direction, while developing a shared vision for their organisation's future and success. His breadth of experience with small and large companies enables Ken to be very practical and he has a wonderful ability to present complex topics in an interesting and comprehensible way.
