Chifley Business School has worked hand-in-hand with the City of Swan—the largest local authority in Metropolitan Perth, to deliver the Diploma of Project Management in-house.

Charlotte England, Corporate Relations Manager for Chifley was responsible for the implementation of the program. Working closely with Tony Holmes — the program facilitator and Margaret Collins, Training and Development Coordinator from the City of Swan, the program was customised and tailored to meet and reflect organisational goals.

Margaret Collins asserted that the skills acquired have reflected and translated very quickly back into their working environment. "The program has provided a platform for our employees to validate existing skills and build new competencies, which have enabled them to contribute strategically", commented Margaret.

The program was centred on combined learning practices from interactive learning to case studies and workplace-based projects, which contributed to a very involved and motivating learning environment, resulting in a high level of completion.

On 13 July 2006, 13 proud City of Swan employees graduated with the Diploma of Project, completing 7 modules over 9 months.

Chifley's Academic Committee for Postgraduate Education

Chifley Business School—a business itself—is directed by a business-led Board.

Equally important, Chifley's Board has appointed an Academic Committee to be the paramount and independent body for setting and maintaining the highest academic standards for the postgraduate programs delivered by Chifley.

The Academic Committee:

  • Determines content, curriculum and assessment issues related to postgraduate programs,
  • Appoints Unit Chairs, Study Guide Authors and Chief Examiners,
  • Approves academic and administrative policies associated with the conduct of postgraduate programs,
  • Gives direction to Curriculum, Academic Review and Examiners Sub-Committees,
  • Advises on the development and delivery of new courses and units.

The Academic Committee is drawn from within Chifley Business School and the wider Higher Education sector and includes representatives from Unit Chairs and Study Guide Authors, and an Instructional Designer, in keeping with Chifley's commitment to quality and accessibility in distance education.
